Spring cleaning

We as charter fisherman in Galveston Texas love this time of year. The cold air is lifting and the water temp starts to warm up. The fish start spawning at the jetties and kids are out of school. All of this makes for a perfect combination.

As the month of March carries on we will be focusing our attention on the Jetties. This is where the sheep head fish move to spawn and also the big black drum which we call "Big Uglies". The drum can get up to around 50lbs and serve as a great fight while not having to travel far offshore. As for the edible fish we like to target sheep head, redfish, and speckled trout. All of these can be caught at the jetties during this time of year which is why we enjoy fishing the jetties in the spring so much.

We love being able to get kids on the water during spring break and get them on some fish. Seeing the excitement that they get from reeling in a big black drum, seeing the teeth on a sheep head, or even playing with the live shrimp that we use for bait is truly rewarding. Its nice to be able to put that smile on someones face and educate them on the fish that we have here in our Texas waters.
